ZMI - Centre for Media and Interactivity
The institute is involved with the Zentrum für Medien und Interaktivität of the JLU Giessen via section 5 "Art and Media". The ZMI, founded in 2001, initiates and coordinates activities in research and teaching which at the JLU are observed in the areas of the application and use of conventional and new media, especially electronic and computerised communication. Questions of social, economic, legal, political and the artistic design and effect of media, are each dealt with from a standpoint of interactivity.
In the research alliance, five sections are presently working with scientists from a wide range of fields, which range from economic computing to computer linguistics to Applied Theatre Studies.
The Sektion 5 "Kunst und Medien" brings together fields which are active at the interface of media theory, media critiques and artistic media practice, among which are literary network research, art historical debate with new media as well as artistic and media scientific activities of the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies. Particular attention is paid to the artistic and media critical debate with the new media and productions in the new media, above all, from areas such as politics and sport, which are examined in view of a general dramatisation of society.
