Tanzlabor_21 / A Tanzplan Deutschland project, is a joint project conceived and developed by Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Frankfurt University for Music and Performing Arts and the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at Justus Liebig University of Giessen. Until 2010, the project will receive 1,15 million euros in funding from Tanzplan Deutschland - an initiative of the Federal Cultural Foundation. It will receive an additional amount of 500,000 euros over the course of five years from the Department for Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt/Main, as well as 650,000 euros from Hessen Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts. Currently, the project is planned for a period of five years.
Tanzlabor_21 / A Tanzplan Deutschland project is dedicated to professional dance education and unites all dance-relevant institutions in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area. TANZLABOR_21 seeks to intensify the interaction between dance theory and dance practice. The main focus lies on the establishment of new, practically oriented dance education courses: an MA in contemporary dance pedagogy, focusing specifically on contemporary dance, was introduced in the winter semester 2007/2008 at the Frankfurt Unversity for Music and Performing Arts. A Masters course of Choreography/Performance will begin in the winter semester 2008/2009 and take place both at the University for Music and Performing Arts as well as at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen as part of the Hessian Theatre Academy Network. Every year the graduates of the dance education courses are brought together with professional artists to form a project ensemble (up to now PET_1 and PET_2) in which they work with well-known choreographers, thereby gaining practical process-oriented stage experience. Regular training for professional dancers and dance students began in January 2007. In a biannual summer laboratory (starting in August 2008), TANZLABOR_21 / A Tanzplan Deutschland project presents the results of its numerous projects to an interested audience. The year-round artist-in-residency program aims in incorporating international artists into the project as a whole. TANZLABOR_21 / A Tanzplan Deutschland project also seeks to further develop and support the work of the ongoing outreach program "Artists in Schools" in the field of dance.
