Tenure-track professorship in High-Mountain Geomorphology

Job opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship at the Fachbereich Geography and Geology. Initially the post is fixed term for 6 years. Gross minimum salary is € 3.546,00 (14× annually) and € 4.193,50 (14× annually) after agreement of the qualification contract (within the first 2 years). Tenure is granted maximum 4 years after signing the qualification contract if the targets agreed have been fulfilled (usually constituting a Habilitation by papers, research proposals, teaching and administrative tasks, as well as community service).

  • Start Date: 1. March 2016
  • initially 6 years fixed term; permanency after fulfilment of the qualification contract
  • Working hours: 40 per week

Tasks:

Habilitation or other agreed qualification targets; independent research; independent teaching (4 hours per week during term time); contribution to administration, teaching and research across the department; the post holder will be the in charge of organising and delivering the ‘Applied Geomorphology and Alpine Natural Hazards’ stream within the Geography MSc programme. Teaching language is German (an initial two year transition period may be granted for non-native speakers).

 

Specifications:

 Essential: PhD in Physical Geography or Geology; publications in top international journals, teaching experience at BSc and MSc level; Research experience at Postdoctoral level in high-mountain geomorphology.

Desirable: Extensive experience in field-based geomorphological Research in high mountain regions including mapping, shallow sub-surface geophysical exploration, laser-scanning as well as GIS-based data analyses and modelling as well as geomorphological/sedimentological lab techniques.

Additionally, experience in research income generation, MSc & PhD student supervision and University administration will be beneficial; Experience with organising and running scientific meetings and contributions to national and international research organisations and learned societies will be considered.

The successful individual will be a dynamic and highly motivated independent researcher, and a great communicator. She or he will be open for cooperation across the Fachbereich and the University.
